Security and Justice Project (SJP)-Hamro Pratigya

Despite Nepal’s legal commitments and constitutional guarantees, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a widespread issue. Harmful social norms, gender inequality, and structural barriers continue to hinder effective collaboration and service delivery for GBV prevention and response. To address this, social norm change interventions are essential, which will help to combat GBV, enhance public safety, and encourage individuals affected by GBV to seek the necessary services.

The Hamro Pratigya project, funded by UK International Development, is dedicated to empowering individuals and strengthening community-level and institutional mechanisms to prevent and respond to GBV. This project fosters coordinated efforts to challenge harmful social norms while building public trust in state mechanisms that address GBV. The project is currently being implemented in three provinces: Lumbini, Karnali, and Madhesh.

HDV serves as a technical partner in the Hamro Pratigya project, providing expertise in engaging men and boys in gender-based violence (GBV) prevention across three provinces: Lumbini, Madesh, and Karnali. HDV's key contributions include:

Supporting the adaptation and implementation of the Gender-Transformative Social Norms (GT-SN) Toolkit to facilitate engaging sessions.

  • Facilitating Master Training of Trainers (MTOT), Training of Trainers (TOT), and GT-SN sessions, while offering specialized knowledge on Men and Masculinity.
  • Monitoring GT-SN sessions, providing constructive feedback, and offering ongoing support to provincial partners.
  • Implementing the Men Engage Strategy to establish and strengthen safe spaces where men and boys can openly discuss gender roles, masculinity, and GBV prevention.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to advocate for policies and programs that encourage men’s active involvement in GBV prevention.
  • Organizing capacity-building workshops and training sessions on positive masculinity, promoting men’s engagement, and supporting GBV prevention initiatives.
